We offer internships with 3 organizations, the West Michigan Sports Commission, the Meijer State Games of Michigan, and the Art Van Sports Complex.
NOTE: applying for more than one internship does not hurt your application chances.
Internship duties include but are not limited to: event operations and administration, logistics, event bid preparation, database entry, volunteer recruitment and management, hospitality, meeting planning, writing press releases and follow-up with media, promotional research, creating and implementing marketing plans and general support. Internships are 20 hours/week plus additional hours when needed for events. If you need additional hours than this for your program requirements, our internship will not work for you.

State Games of Michigan Internships
The WMSC's signature event, the Meijer State Games of Michigan, provides an excellent opportunity to gain real world experience while gaining knowledge of what it takes to run a multi-sport Olympic-style event. Examples of Internships:
Media / PR Coordinator - Works to develop relationships with local and statewide media to increase the awareness of the Meijer State Games of Michigan. Duties include (not limited to): writing and distributing news releases, coordinating news interviews, writing blogs, media guide, result coordination, etc. Accounting Intern - Intern will be responsible for the accounting of the Meijer State Games of Michigan. Main responsibilities include accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card reconciliation, month end reconciliation, invoicing and collection, tracking and reporting. Intern will also become familiar with Quickbook Premier Nonprofit Edition 2014. Other duties will be assigned as needed or as requested. Event Operations Coordinator - Assists with event logistics and operations for the Meijer State Games of Michigan. Duties include (not limited to): volunteer recruitment, equipment/merchandise distribution, corporate challenge management, updating event information on website/app, assisting with registration, etc. Marketing Coordinator - Connects the Meijer State Games of Michigan with potential athletes and teams/clubs as well as with various Michigan sports associations to spread the word about the Summer Games. Duties include (not limited to): Google Grant marketing campaigns, Constant Contact email marketing, research, assisting with registration, etc. Video Coordinator: Works to create interviews, event recap and promotional videos to promote the Meijer State Games of Michigan. Duties include (but not limited to): creating short videos to promote events, filming/editing interviews, establishing video archive, filming major events (Opening Ceremony and sports events), etc.
Fieldwork hours are also available for students looking to volunteer to fulfill requirements of their major.

Art Van Sports Complex Internships
The WMSC's baseball/softball complex, the Art Van Sports Complex, provides an excellent opportunity to gain real world experience while gaining knowledge of what it takes to run youth & amateur sports complex.
Example of positions available:
Facility Intern - Learn responsibilities associated with managing a premier sports complex. Duties include shadowing Complex Manager, while also learning field prep for game operations (not limited to): Scheduling, chalking/dragging fields, miscellaneous equipment maintenance.
Grounds/Turf Management Intern - work directly with Grounds Manager as you learn about turf management, irrigation techniques and overall grounds management of a 79 acre facility. See the job description here: AVSC Grounds Intern Job Description.docx
