Grand Rapids' Rock Alternative 97.9 GRD will host the second annual Pond Hockey Classic presented by Labatt Blue. The Grand Rapids Sled Wings will also hold an exhibition sled hockey game at 6pm. Sled hockey is a fast-growing, fast-paced sport ideal for individuals with lower limb affected disabilities. The tournament begins Friday with 60 teams in different divisions playing on the frozen surface of Reeds Lake in East Grand Rapids. Division finals will conclude on Sunday, February 26. Teams of 6-8 players 21 years of age or older will compete in 4-on-4 games on rinks built using water, shovels, small plows, and hay barrels. The rinks will be 150' long x 75' wide. Players are expected to come from all over Michigan and the surrounding areas to participate in the GRD Pond Hockey Classic. Teams will play against each other in 4-on-4 games consisting of two halves, each 20 minutes long with a two minute intermission.
