MINNEAPOLIS – TheMinnesota men’s hockey program will open its 34th NCAA tournament as the No. 2 overall seed on Friday against Yale at the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey West Regional in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today announced that its highly-successful men's playoff championship – known as the WCHA Final Five – will head to Van Andel Arena and the City of Grand Rapids, Mich., for the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons and will return to Xcel Energy Center and the City of Saint Paul, Minn., for the 2014-15 and 2016-17 campaigns.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Grand Rapids Griffins defenseman Chad Billins was among the countless young hockey players who dreamed of one day playing in the Frozen Four.

Billins lived his dream a year ago.


That dream will come true again early next month in Pittsburgh, but in order for one of those teams to advance to the Frozen Four, it will need to survive the West Regional at Van Andel Arena.

The West Michigan Sports Commission has multi-faceted banner news announcements amidst the first quarter of 2013, but the domino effect in the business sector is especially worthy of note.


WMSC announced March 4 it would expand with the debut of Winter Games throughout the metro area in February 2014. Further, it is expanding its successful Meijer State Games, adding five more sports to this summer’s lineup.
