GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Guests at the JW Marriott often rave about Kellie Rowland's signature drink concoctions.

 

The mixologist at the downtown hotel's bar, Mixology Lounge, won the cocktail global contest within the entire Marriott International chain this year.

 

And she now she has a new award for her mantel with an equally intriguing descriptor of her talents: the 2012 Wave award for Nightlife.

When the fiscal year’s first quarter ended, there was an unusual role reversal among the buildings the Convention and Arena Authority operates. This time DeVos Place was performing better than Van Andel Arena; the opposite has usually held true for the past eight years or so.

 

At the three-month mark, the convention center was less than $22,000 in the red. A year ago, its financial color was more crimson than red: The building had lost nearly $490,000 by the end of September 2011.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Bicyclists will want to start training big time for a monstrous new event starting next year, where a good cause will be worth feeling the burn.

 

The Grand Rapids-based Michigan State University College of Human Medicine announced its first "Gran Fondo" event for June 29, 2013, a three-course trek up to 80 miles that will double as a fundraiser for melanoma research.

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – The timing of the groundbreaking on the $7.8 million Art Van Sports Complex a day before Detroit Tigers begin play in the World Series wasn’t missed Tuesday.

 

“What a great time to be talking about baseball with the Tigers kicking off their bid for another world championship,” David Van Elslander, vice present of merchandising for Art Van Furniture, said before some 300 gathered at the site of the future baseball-softball complex on 10 Mile Road and U.S. 131.
