GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A campaign to build a $7.8 million sports complex in Plainfield Township received a major boost today that organizers said will allow groundbreaking as soon as next month.

Warren-based Art Van Furniture secured the naming rights for the multi-field baseball-softball complex with a $1.8 million commitment, West Michigan Sports Commission Executive Director Mike Guswiler said Thursday ahead of its annual luncheon at JW Marriott.

The funding of the Art Van Sports Complex puts the campaign within $1 million of its phase I goal, WMSC officials said, and paves way to break ground on construction at the site at 10 Mile Road and U.S. 131 near Rockford. Guswiler said it will probably be mid- to late-October, with a specific date announced in the coming weeks.
