Esports industry continues to grow, Grand Rapids hosts major gamer tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The number of esports viewers is expected to surpass that of Super Bowl viewers by hundreds of millions of eyes in the next two years according to Katy Tigchelaar, director of marketing and events for the West Michigan Sports Commission.

Tigchelaar said the Superbowl had 99 million viewers this year, but by 2022, esports will have 645 million. She said the rise in the sport's popularity offers a new industry to West Michigan.
