GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 27, 2022 – Tom Izzo, Michigan State University Men’s Head Basketball Coach will be the featured speaker at the 15th Annual West Michigan Sports Commission Luncheon on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 12 p.m. (noon).  The luncheon will be held in the International Ballroom of the JW Marriott Hotel, 235 Louis Campau Promenade NW.

Coach Izzo has led the Spartans to eight Final Fours in the NCAA Tournament, including the NCAA National Championship in 2000 and a Runner-Up finish in 2009.  His teams have won ten Big Ten regular-season titles and six Big Ten Tournament championships in his 26 years at Michigan State.

The luncheon will also honor Peter F. Secchia, the Founder of the West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC) and Michigan State University Alum.  Through Peter, Coach Izzo was the 1st Annual Luncheon speaker, so it is fitting to have the Head Coach back to help honor a local philanthropist who had a very large impact on the WMSC. “Coming out of the pandemic, sports tourism has proven to make solid ground toward bringing visitor spending back into our community.  Our ability to once again hold our annual luncheon and report to the community is proof that things are getting better.  We are honored to have Coach Izzo as our guest speaker again, along with remembering all that Peter Secchia meant to this organization.” stated Mike Guswiler, President WMSC.

As with past years, this luncheon serves as a fundraiser as well as a progress report to our stakeholders on the success of the organization, promoting and hosting youth and amateur sporting events in the region for economic enhancement, healthy living and creating a vibrant community through sport.

The luncheon currently has sponsorship levels that allow attendees to personally meet Coach Izzo.  Reservations and interest in sponsorship levels can be made by contacting Katy Tigchelaar at (616) 608-1838 or ktigchelaar@westmisports.com.  A table of eight starts at $850, and single tickets are $125 per person. Luncheon information is also available online at https://www.westmisports.com/annual-luncheon.
