PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP — The West Michigan Sports Commission’s plans for a ballfield complex on 10 Mile Road took a step forward when the Planning Commission recommended a change to the planned unit development covering the site.

About 60 of the 350 acres south of Wolven Avenue were marked in 2003 for a light industrial park, which was never developed. The Sports Commission wants about 12 baseball and softball fields for national leagues. Representatives of the organization told the Planning Commission that fundraising goals for construction have been met.

The Township Board will schedule a hearing for an ordinance that would allow the sports complex in the PUD. The Sports Commission will need site plan approval once the zoning is approved.
