THE COLOR RUN COMES TO DOWNTOWN GRAND RAPIDS
Registration Open Now

Grand Rapids, Mich. June 14, 2012 – On August 5, 2012 The Color Run group is travelling to Grand Rapids to organize the first color dust race in the city.  The race starts and finishes at Calder Plaza (315 Ottawa Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI  49503).  It is one of over 40 races that are happening across the United States in 2012.

The Color Run has been called “the happiest 5K on the planet.”  It is more about enjoying a colorful day with friends and family than speed.  Participants will run through downtown while volunteers ambush participants with colored dust (100% natural and safe) at each kilometer mark.  Each kilometer mark is represented by a different color and a “Color Extravaganza” awaits runners at the finish line.

Nearby races in Ann Arbor and Chicago have sold out at over 10,000 participants.  Registration is open and has over 8,000 people who have already signed up.  The fees are the following:

Individual                                           Teams (of 4 of more)

$45 until June 1st                                 $40 until June 1st

$50 until July 1st                                  $45 until July 1st

$55 after July 1st                                 $50 after July 1st

Participants will run in heats of 1,200 every ten minutes beginning at 8am.  Following the race, the Finish Festival will be at Calder Plaza.

“The West Michigan Sports Commission is excited to be hosting a Color Run 5k.  The overwhelming attraction to tie sport and fitness with this unique participant experience will draw visitors from across the state and neighboring states,” indicated Mike Guswiler, Executive Director.

The Color Run does have charity partners for the event through group volunteering.  Organizations can receive $300 for 15 or more volunteers provided.  Volunteers will help at the finish line, packet pick up, throw color powder, and clean up the event.  If you are interested in volunteering you can contact Matt Christensen at MChristensen@westmisports.com.
