MEIJER STATE GAMES OF MICHIGAN ANNOUNCES 2nd ANNUAL NATIONAL ANTHEM CONTEST WINNER

Grand Rapids, Mich., May 8, 2014 – After two weeks of Facebook voting, the results are in for the winner of the 2nd annual Meijer State Games of Michigan national anthem contest presented by Heglund Sova Realty. Elise Ghattas of Flint, Michigan received the majority of the votes and will perform the national anthem at the Meijer State Games of Michigan - Opening Ceremonies.

 

The Opening Ceremonies will be held June 20 at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park with an estimated 6,000 people in attendance. The fifth annual Meijer State Games of Michigan, the signature event of the West Michigan Sports Commission, will be held June 20-22 in the greater Grand Rapids, Mich., area.

 

“What an incredible opportunity,” stated Ghattas. “I am so excited and owe it all to my friends and family who have supported me throughout this entire process.”

 

Ghattas edged out the other two finalists, Haley Marentette and Colin Tobin, in a close vote. Over 1,300 votes were received. Ghattas received the most votes totaling 591 with Marentette in a close second with 577. Ghattas’s winning video can be found at www.stategamesofmichigan.com/anthem.

 

Contestants had until mid-April to submit their videos of them singing the national anthem. The top 3 finalists were then selected and fans of the Meijer State Games of Michigan Facebook page had the opportunity to review the videos and publicly vote for their finalist.
