Grand Rapids, Mich., May 21, 2015 – The Meijer State Games of Michigan announced the addition of five new sports, to push the Summer Games sports lineup to over 40 sports for this year’s event.

The five sports that will make their first appearance in the Summer Games sports lineup are: baseball, quad rugby, tennis, soccer and the ultrafit challenge.

The baseball tournament will take place on the main weekend, which is June 25-28, at the Art Van Sports Complex in Rockford, while tennis and quad rugby will also be played during the main weekend with tennis taking place in Holland and quad rugby will be played at East Kentwood High School. The ultrafit challenge will be held on June 27 at CrossFit Grand Rapids.

The soccer tournament will be the final event of the Meijer State Games of Michigan, as the tournament will be played on August 8-9 at the MVP Fieldhouse.

Soccer tournament director, Marc Frankland, talked about the addition of soccer to the Summer Games sports lineup, “When I was approached by the Meijer State Games of Michigan about the possibility of adding a soccer tournament, I jumped at the opportunity. I have run large soccer tournaments across the state and soccer is really growing at a terrific rate in West Michigan.”

Frankland continued, “What sets this event apart is the fact that any group of players can get together and form a team at any age level, which is a real break from the traditional sanctioned events that are the norm in Michigan. Whether it is a fun event in the summer or a tune up for the fall season, this tournament appeals to any soccer enthusiast.”

The majority of the sports have open registration, with the online deadline for most sports being on Wednesday, June 24. Registration for soccer will be open until July 6. In the 2014 edition of the Meijer Summer State Games on Michigan, there were 6,934 athletes from 73 of 83 counties around the state.
