The Mary Free Bed Foundation works with Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital to support, nurture and grow rehabilitation programs and services for people who have experienced a life-altering event or illness. Hand in hand, we restore hope and freedom through rehabilitation.
Did You Know...
Mary Free Bed originated in 1891 when a group of women raised money to sponsor one bed in the local hospital for those of limited financial means. Women named Mary, and anyone who knew a Mary, were asked to donate. The bed became known as the Mary Free Bed. Today, 120 guild and junior guild women continue the more than 100-year tradition of serving people with disabilities through rehabilitative care.
Mary Free Bed served more than 20,000 patients last year.
Patients came from 80 of Michigan’s 83 counties.
75% of patients came from within a 50-mile radius of the hospital.
Mary Free Bed is the only nationally accredited, free-standing, not-for-profit rehabilitation hospital in West Michigan. We help children and adults achieve maximum potential after a life-altering event or illness. Many of our patients come to us after experiencing:
Spinal cord injury
Traumatic brain injury
We also offer many outpatient, home-based and specialty services such as orthotics and prosthetics, wheelchair and adaptive sport programs and recreational therapy.
To ensure a future as compelling as our past, please donate now. Your support will allow us to continue strengthening minds and bodies and instilling hope in our patients and their families.
On behalf of our patients, whose lives are better because of the therapy and services received at Mary Free Bed, thank you.
