We foster economic development by attracting sporting events which improve our citizens' quality of life and elevates the brand of Grand Rapids.

The West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was established in 2007 to foster economic development by attracting sporting events which improve our citizens' quality of life and elevates the brand of Grand Rapids. The WMSC secures and hosts youth and amateur sporting events to positively impact the economy and quality of life in the region. In addition to bringing youth and amateur sporting events to West Michigan, the WMSC has two additional operating branches that contribute to their mission: the Meijer Sports Complex and the Meijer State Games of Michigan.

Meijer Sports Complex

In 2014, the Meijer Sports Complex was built in Rockford, MI to contribute to the WMSC’s primary mission of serving as a sports tourism destination and asset for attracting travel teams. The championship-caliber baseball and softball complex feature eight baseball and softball field, including a 385-foot fenced Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation Championship Field with covered grandstands to seat 1,000 spectators, Nate Hurwitz Miracle League Field for children with disabilities; warm-up areas, restrooms, concessions and maintenance building; and parking for more than 400 vehicles. The Meijer Sports Complex also serves as the home field for the Aquinas College baseball team.

In October 2022, the West Michigan Sports Commission announced the ‘A Winning Streak for West Michigan’ capital campaign to expand to the Meijer Sports Complex.

Meijer State Games of Michigan

The signature event of the West Michigan Sports Commission, the Meijer State Games of Michigan, is an Olympic-style event for athletes of all ages and abilities. The event draws 10,000+ Michigan residents through 50+ sports in its winter and summer games.
